If there’s one thing we know for sure about the 2013 Retina MacBook Pro, it’s that it will launch this year and most probably by the end of the summer. The fact that the 2013 MacBook Air range was lavished with a Haswell upgrade at WWDC 2013 proved that this is the next step forward for Apple’s notebook range, meaning that as far as the new MacBook Pro lineup goes it’s all a case of when, rather than if.
Well, the good news today is that the sighting of a Geekbench report detailing what appears to be the new 2013 MacBook Pro confirms that the new machine is indeed ready to drop. The notebook listed is said to be a 15-inch Haswell MacBook Pro packing an Intel Core i7-4950HQ along with 16GB of RAM.
On a slightly less thrilling note, there’s no mention of the GPU and the overall score the machine chalks up isn’t particularly jaw-dropping. Sure it’s great and at least in line with existing MacBook Pro models, but doesn’t seem to be quite as improved as we’d come to expect.
But then again, one of the crowning glories of the new Haswell chips and thus the 2013 MacBook Pro is the potential for battery life improvements, which in this instance could see longevity of the thing doubled.
And assuming Apple is generous enough with the pricing and the options, the new Pro range could be every bit the hit we hope it will be.
