Ultra-simplistic single message sending app Yo has managed to surpass almost all other big banner apps in the US Apple App Store charts taking fifth position after garnering over 1 million downloads in just four days.
“We welcome our 1,000,007 user! After 4 days we are humble and thankful for your love”, tweeted Yo on Sunday. The app managed to leapfrog the likes of Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to rank fifth on the US charts.
Yo’s two letter messaging novelty didn’t go unnoticed as last Thursday, before the app actually reached the 1 million downloads milestone, the app was hacked by three Georgia Institute of Technology students.
However, Yo’s creator Or Arbel didn’t take this negatively, but instead welcomed the hack stating: “We were lucky enough to get hacked at an early stage and the issue has been fixed.”
The security breach was resolved on June 22; however, Arbel downplayed the breach stating that the hack only exposed phone numbers of those users who used app’s find friends feature. Others only had their usernames exposed.
“If you haven’t used the FIND FRIENDS feature, the only piece of information that was leaked was your Yo username” assured Arbel.
To top this Yo has employed one of the hackers. “One of them is actually now working with us on improving Yo experience in other aspects as well”, revealed Arbel.
