Believe it or not Amazon’s much-hyped but not-so-popular Fire phone, which was available for around $450 unlocked or off contract, is now on sale for just $199 unlocked.
It’s not all, making it an even better deal, the online retailer is also offering a year of free Amazon Prime, which is normally sold for $99, with the 32GB GSM Fire phone, meaning that for those who are looking to sign up for the service, the phone will cost just $100 extra with no need for a contract.
Launched just four months ago, the handset was originally priced at $650 unlocked or $199 with a new two year contract with AT&T. The price was however brought down to $449 in September.
Amazon wrote off $170 million on their new smartphone in their latest financial results, admitted that the company got the pricing wrong.
In terms of specifications, the Fire phone features a 4.7-inch 720p display, 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC, 2 GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, 13MP camera at the back, 2.1 MP shooter at the front, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac connectivity, LTE and a 2400 mAh battery.

Dynamic perspective and object recognition feature are two of the notable features of the Amazon phone. While dynamic perspective feature makes use of four infrared, front-facing cameras to track head movements and shift perspectives depending on a user’s activity, the Firefly object recognition feature helps in identifying items and product names captured with the device’s camera including Web and email addresses, phone numbers, bar codes, and millions of products enabling users to purchase them in just seconds.
The price drop on the Amazon Fire Phone is currently limited to the U.S. only. The Fire phone retail price in UK still continues to be the same at £399.
