Yahoo on Tuesday announced that it has acquired local search app dubbed Zofari to bolster its search offerings.
Zofari offers an iPhone and Android application which provides users with location-based recommendations within their environment. Zofari, describing itself as “Pandora for Places,” offers customized and personalized recommendations of venues and businesses aligning with the tastes of the users. With a change in users’ location, recommendations for new places to visit also changes.
Yahoo, in a statement, said both Zofari and Yahoo share a common goal which is to make the world an easier place to explore for as many people as possible. The company is quite excited to welcome the Zofari team who will now be joining the growing search organization to continue build amazing discovery experiences.
With this acquisition, Yahoo aims to improve local search service to compete with rivals Google, Yelp and others.
Zofari in a blog post said that the team is very proud of their beautiful and powerful recommendation app. The small company has always dreamed of reaching users at a greater scale.
The search recommendation startup said the decision to join Yahoo turned into an easy one after the team met some of Yahoo Search team’s amazing people. Although the company declined to reveal anything about its future prospects, but noted that they are extremely excited to join Yahoo.
The financial details of the deal have not yet been disclosed. However, the Zofari apps are still available in their respective stores.
