Xiaomi on Tuesday took the wraps off its new premium flagship handset dubbed ‘Mi 4’ at a launch event held at the National Convention Center in Beijing.
Claimed to be the “world’s fastest smartphone,” the Xiaomi Mi 4 is the successor of the company’s popular Mi 3 smartphone.
Powered by a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, the Mi 4 packs a 5-inch 1080p screen, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory and a 3080 mAh battery. According to Xiaomi, the battery is expected to last around one and a half day with normal usage and will offer quick charging, reaching 60% charge in an hour’s time.
The handset will be available in 16GB and 64GB storage variants running on the next iteration of the company’s MIUI version, MIUI 6, scheduled to be launched on August 16, on top of Android KitKat.
The Mi 4 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, both coupled with Sony’s stacked CMOS sensors. The device features a stainless steel metal frame and a 5-inch full HD display is made by Sharp or JDI.
Xiaomi confirmed that the Mi 3 successor will initially be launched in China shipping with a price tag of around £190 ($320) for the 16GB model, and £240 ($400) for the 64GB variant. The Chinese handset maker also recently announced a fitness band called Mi Band that will sell for $13.
