Xbox One is just days away from public launch and with more and more information about the console being revealed as a build up towards the launch, some things that have been revealed don’t paint a beautiful picture.
Take for example a recent revelation by John Bruno, Xbox Live Lead Program Manager, during a GDC Next presentation. Bruno said that Xbox One OS may require updates because of which the gaming console may reboot at times when gamers are in the middle of a gameplay session.
“That’s a problematic thing for a game, and is oftentimes is in the middle of a multiplayer session, we’ve worked very hard to overcome that, but that’s not to say it’s going to be a reality in every case”, said Bruno notes iGR.
Bruno didn’t specify the frequency of the updates and how often that reboot might happen and if Microsoft is working towards a workaround.
There were questions that revolved around Xbox Live Compute failure. When asked what would happen if the XBLC service goes down, Bruno said that he can’t answer that because it is up to the game developer on how much they rely on the XBLC for their games.
“If they want to rely more on our XBLC service, we’re happy to support that. We do provide a platform for them to persist data, but that’s up to the developer to utilize that”, said Bruno.
