WordPress.org on Wednesday announced the arrival of the much-awaited WordPress 3.9 with a host of new and improved features. The new WP 3.9 release is available for download for new users and update in WordPress Dashboard for existing users.
The fully redesigned WordPress 3.9 named “Smith” in honour of African-American jazz musician Jimmy Smith will offer users a better understanding of how their content will look when it goes live.
“Looking for a new theme should be easy and fun. Lose yourself in the boundless supply of free WordPress.org themes with the beautiful new theme browser,” read the announcement.
The user friendly text editor will come with a new user interface and additional features, including improved speed, accessibility, and mobile support. Users can now copy from their Word processor and directly paste into the visual editor without wasting any time on editing or styling their documents.
The WP 3.9 makes it relatively easy for users to edit their images while editing posts and scale images directly in the editor, with improved and easily accessible crop and rotation tools. Uploading images is also much easier and simpler as users just need to grab the picture from their desktop and drop into the editor.
Galleries which display a grid of images can now be previewed directly within the editor. The WordPress 3.9 brings another new feature which allows users to check music and clips within the media manager.
The new Live widget feature allows WordPress users to add, edit, and rearrange their site’s widgets right in the theme customizer, preview the changes live and save them. The improved header image tool in WP 3.9 allows users to upload, crop, and manage headers while customizing with the main theme.
