Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1 is slated for a BUILD 2014 unveil and is said to have features that will take the mobile operating platform to the next level. One such feature that is expected in Windows Phone 8.1 is the ability of installation and executing apps from the microSD memory card.
According to Chinese website coolxap, Windows Phone 8.1 will support all microSD cards, but when it comes to installation and execution of apps directly on and from a microSD the OS will impose a few requirements to ensure optimal performance capabilities.
Class6 and above cards will be required to install and execute apps from the card, but a Class10 card is recommended for optimal performance. Users who use Class4 cards will however not be able to avail this feature.
The site also claims that Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to recognise the type of external storage inserted and inform users whether it will be able to support this functionality.
Windows Phone 8.1 will also bring with it a three-column view allowing users to configure more number of tiles for faster access to apps and feature, but this feature is also said to have a limitation. According to reports, this feature will only be available to Windows Phone smartphones with atleast a 4.5-inch screen.
This means that quite a few smartphones will be left out from this feature including Samsung ATIV Odyssey, Huawei Ascend W1, Ascend W2, HTC 8X, HTC 8XT, HTC 8S, Lumia 520, Lumia 525, Lumia 620, Lumia 720, Lumia 820, Lumia 810, Lumia 810, and Lumia 822.
Microsoft is expected to unveil Windows Phone 8.1 soon and we would know then what all features will be supported on what handsets.
