Microsoft India may have possibly spilled the beans on the release date of Windows Phone 8.1 through a tweet in response to a release date query.
“The Windows Phone 8.1 update will roll out to existing Windows Phone 8 users during the first two weeks of July”, tweeted Microsoft India. From the tweet it isn’t clear whether the rollout will be global or will be limited to India only.
However, the timeline is important considering that this is the first ever time Microsoft has talked about the general availability of Windows Phone 8.1.
Windows Phone 8.1 packs a multitude of new features the primary among them being Cortana – Microsoft’s answer to Apple Siri. Cortana is only available in US for now and is slated for UK and China release soon according to rumours. With a general rollout slated for first two weeks of July, Cortana will hit all Windows Phone devices that have 1GB RAM.
Windows Phone 8.1 is currently available out of the box on Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 and those who have a registered developer account can play around with the OS and all its new features.
