Microsoft has accidently let out information on one of the organisation options it is about to bring to Windows Phone 8.1 – grouping of apps in folders.
The information was revealed through a support article (now removed) detailing how users can group apps in folders on the start screen.
“Folders help you keep your Start screen organized by letting you group Tiles the way you like”, noted Microsoft in the article. “For example, you might have a folder with all your games or one with your favorite apps. It’s completely up to you.”
Users can create folders, add apps to those folders grouping the same type of apps together, and even rename, resize those folders.
The latest folder option doesn’t bring novelty to the equation, but it seems that Microsoft is trying to bring all those important features present in Android as well as iOS onto Windows Phone 8.1. Inclusion of action centre, Cortana in Windows Phone 8.1 are another prominent examples of this.
We are not sure if the feature will be a part of the Windows Phone 8.1 OS when it is generally available in July as a note in the support article reads “To create folders on your Start screen, you need to have Windows Phone 8.1 Update installed on your phone”.
