People wonder which smartphone they should buy. The iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 are all sold by major carriers, so how does one decide if they’re in the market? Based on bargains there are only two iPhones to choose from.
All three phones run iOS software. All will run iOS 7 in the fall.
The iPhone 5 has a wider screen and also a wider aspect ratio, making it preferred for watching movies, using apps, and browsing the web. All phones support Retina display. The smaller 3.5-inch screen on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S is considered easier to use in the hand.
The iPhone 5 is compatible with 4G LTE which accommodates higher network speeds. The typical download speed of 5-12Mbps is usually higher than that offered by Time-Warner or AT&T. The iPhone 4 and 4S support 3G and 4G speeds which are not as fast as 4G LTE.
Performance increases from 4 to 4S to 5. Some future apps probably won’t run on an iPhone 4.
The 4S and 5 have 8MP cameras, while the 4 isn’t as powerful at 5MP. Given that, the 4S is the minimal for taking pictures.
The iPhone 5 is thinner and lighter than the others but the difference is trivial. Though the iPhone 5 is the same width, it’s taller.
When iOS 7 is released, the iPhone 5 will support all the features unlike the older models.
There are cheap deals on iPhones, but the cheapest ones include signing a two-year contract. The cost of the phone is spread over the two years, so one has to factor in the total cost, which can be $2000 over 2 years with the service.
