WhatsApp voice calling feature will land on iOS devices in a couple of weeks’ time.
The news was confirmed by WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton at the 2015 Facebook F8 developers’ conference in San Francisco. Speaking on a panel with Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, and head of Facebook Messenger David Marcus, Brian said that that WhatsApp has spent the last year refining and iterating voice calling before rolling out the feature on Android.
The voice calling feature enables users to call other users by pressing the phone icon which will be displayed next to their contact’s display photo.
As for iOS, Brain said the voice call feature will be coming in a “couple weeks”, reports the Venture Beat.
He didn’t mention an exact launch date for the feature’s arrival on iOS.
The new feature, currently limited on an invite-only basis, has been available to some Android users for quite sometime now, but is yet to be rolled out to all. The feature is also expected to be rolled out for Windows Phone users soon.
In related news, WhatsApp also recently introduced a Web client for in-browser chatting.
“Our Web client is simply an extension of your phone: the Web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device — this means all of your messages still live on your phone,” WhatsApp founder Jan Koum noted in his Facebook page post.
