WhatsApp has rolled out an update for its messaging app that now notifies you when a message has been read through a two blue tick marks next to the sent message.
Earlier WhatsApp users used to get two grey tick marks next to sent messages only indicating that the message has been delivered. In an update on its FAQ pages, WhatsApp notes “If you see two blue check marks next to your sent message then the recipient has read your message. In a group chat or broadcast message, the check marks will turn blue when every participant has read your message.”
This update means that now if you see one grey tick, it means that the message has been successfully sent, if you see two grey tick marks, it means that the message has been delivered to recipient’s phone and two blue tick marks indicates that the message has been read.
Alongside this, WhatsApp has also rolled out what it calls a Message Info screen that displays information about the message. When you tap and hold on a sent message, the screen will show whether the message has been delivered, read or seen, played (in case of voice messages).
Beyond these two features, reports about the long awaited voice call functionalities have been spotted by a Dutch publication that claims that it has spotted icons for missed calls, start call, end call, incoming and outgoing calls, and new call from an Android app. The site has posted the icons on its site while also posting an alleged sound file, which it claims is the dial tone for WhatsApp.
