According to newly leaked documents, Apple isn’t going to offer walk-in customers the chance to buy its Apple Watch off-the-shelf, but instead they will be required to book the model they intend to purchase online.
Walk-in customers will be offered a chance to try Apple Watch though and if they decide to buy one, they can place an order online through the Apple Store app. It seems that the latest tactic is a direct result of the limited stock at launch – reports about which have been floating around for a while.
“Apple is not allowing any walk-in retail purchases for the Apple Watch at launch. Instead customers must make an online “Product Reservation” to hold a specific Apple Watch model at a retail store. This new “Product Reservation” system is used instead of Apple’s “Personal Pickup” system for Apple Watches”, reads a statement in the leaked documents, notes MacRumors.
Apple Watch pre-orders will begin on April 10. Those who want to try out the smartwatch first can make an appointment at Apple Stores during that time. The Apple Watch will officially ship on April 24.
