Vodafone, one of UK’s leading mobile network carriers, has announced the availability of HD Voice technology across its 3G network in the country.
As a result of the rollout, Vodafone customers in the UK will now be able to make high quality voice calls with a compatible handset over the operator’s 3G network. Currently the service will only support Vodafone-to-Vodafone calls, meaning customers while making calls to other Vodafone devices will experience exceptional call quality and clear conversation by connecting up to the internet.
The operator claims HD voice is designed to capture sound waves twice as fast as standard calls to make conversations more natural, louder and clear. The technology uses a broader range of frequencies to match the pitch and tone in human speech thereby helping in reducing background noise to a minimum and improving the quality of conference calls.
Vodafone 4G customer will also get HD voice support, as they switch to the 3G network when making calls. The mobile operator confirmed all calls will be charged at the normal rate.
The latest move comes as part of Vodafone’s £1 billion project that aims to improve and upgrade the operators’ network infrastructure all across the UK by the end of 2014. The service will be rolled out for Vodafone business and consumer customers over the next few days.
Vodafone UK technology director Fergal Kelly said that with HD Voice the company aims to offer its best call quality to customers. He said that the launch of HD Voice technology is another important step towards the company’s commitment to deliver its strongest ever network to the UK.
