Vodafone is taking on Everything Everywhere with its own branded 4G-ready handsets dubbed Smart 4 Power and Smart 4 Turbo.
The Smart 4 Turbo packs a 4.5-inch display with a screen resolution of 221 pixels per square inch, quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM, a 5-megapixel rear snapper capable of recording 720p videos and a front facing camera, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, among other standard set of features.
The Smart 4 Turbo is available for purchase from Vodafone UK store right now and costs £135 on pay-as-you-go or for free if you choose a £31.50 Vodafone Red 4G plan.
Smart 4 Power is yet to be released, but this handset is more powerful than its Turbo sibling with 5-inch qHD display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 5-Megapixel camera, and a massive 3000mAh battery. Storage and other specifications haven’t been released by Vodafone yet.
Both Smart 4 Turbo and Smart 4 Power will run Android KitKat out of the box, but Vodafone has stopped just there without specifying the actual version of the OS. Chances are that it will be Android 4.4 KitKat with upgradability to 4.4.2 over the air.
“These two new devices offer great value for people looking at our Red 4G plans, and when we launch 4G on Pay as you go these devices will be ready to bring that ultrafast experience to a new group of customers, too,” says Vodafone’s Tim Newell. “That’s what makes these phones really exciting for us: they will help more people to access 4G and enable them to do more on the move too.”
Vodafone claims that both the handsets can easily compete with other performance smartphones out there – a claim which can only be verified once both of them are tested and reviewed.
