Virgin Media on Thursday announced launching of a new online storage service dubbed Virgin Media Cloud.
Developed in partnership with security firm, F-Secure, Virgin Media’s new cloud service will let users instantly save and share content from any internet-enabled device and stream music and video files directly from the cloud.
Broadband customers will be offered free storage of up to 5GB, with a maximum of 10 people in each Virgin Media household being allowed to sign up for 5GB of their own cloud storage. This means that each household can get up to 50GB of free storage through Virgin Media Cloud.
Virgin Media, in a blog post, said, “We want to keep our customers, and their content, safe online so we’re giving our broadband customers an easy way to store and share content instantly from any device, wherever they are. So we’ve launched a new online storage service today that enables them to do just that.”
“The intuitive interface makes it easy to store, back up and access files safely from any location. As content syncs across all registered devices, users can take a photo on their smartphone while they’re out and view it on their laptop when they get home,” the firm added.
For additional storage space, Virgin Media will charge £3.99 a month for 50GB, £5.99 a month for 100GB, £13.99 a month for 250GB and £26.99 a month for 500GB. Customers are also offered free 100GB storage space until 31 May after which charges will be applied.
Devices compatible with Virgin Media Cloud includes PC, Mac, Android devices running version 2.1 and higher, iOS devices running iOS 5 and higher, Windows Phone 8, and desktop browsers.
