Mobile carrier, Verizon, has more contracts, for more mobile phones in America, than any other carrier. It is, for this reason perhaps, that it is known by the nickname ‘Big Red’.
It is certainly big and does feature a lot of red in its advertising and it also carries a lot of clout with both the mobile operating system providers and the hardware manufacturers.
The mobile carriers pretty much hold the key to the market for both software and hardware suppliers.
It is to the mobile carrier of choice that the customer goes back to for an upgrade. It is the mobile carrier that can shirt the huge numbers of handsets needed for a particular device to be a success in the market.
Due to the power that Verizon has in the market, the companies’ product announcements give a very good indication as to the direction of the market in coming months. Verizon has announced that it will release details of “the next generation of their most popular family of devices” at the Lincoln Center Plaza in New York on the 23rd July.
Verizon have been doing very well by offering both the hugely popular Galaxy S4 and the Apple. What the company will announce at the event to continue this momentum remains to be seen, but it is likely to be a new range of Android based Smartphones. There have been numerous leaks of a Motorola Android phone that could be the ‘Droid Ultra’ replacement for the ‘Droid Razr’ range on phones. It may even announce the availability of the much-rumored Moto X from Google to customers.
