UK Police has reportedly arrested an alleged member of the Lizard Squad, the notorious hacking group that claimed responsibility for the cyberattacks against Sony’s PlayStation Network and Microsoft’s Xbox Live gaming networks over Christmas.
According to a report on tech site the Daily Dot, the British law enforcement agents from the South East Regional Organized Crime Unit have arrested the 22-year-old, Vinnie Omari, in the United Kingdom on Monday in connection with fraud and Computer Misuse Act offences.
“The arrest is in connection with an ongoing investigation into cyber-fraud offences which took place between 2013 and August 2014 during which victims reported funds being stolen from their PayPal accounts,” Thames Valley Police said in a statement on behalf of the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (Serocu).
Omari, who is a student of network security and ethical hacking, confirmed to the website that he had been arrested, and even furnished a photo of the search warrant police reportedly used to raid his home. He wrote that law enforcement officers “took everything” when they raided his home including “Xbox one, phones, laptops, computer USBs, etc.”
Omari further noted that no charges were pressed on him. However, he declined to comment on the attacks and frauds he was being investigated.
The statement added that the man has been released on bail until 10 March.
