The UK government, on Tuesday, announced a new online IT security training course for lawyers and accountants to train them on how to protect themselves and their clients against cyber attacks.
The new online course aims to make legal and accountancy professionals aware of common cyber risks and threats such as phishing and social engineering and train them on how to deal with cyber threats if they crop up.
Announcing the new training course, Digital economy minister Ed Vaizey said Lawyers and accountants, who deal with client’s sensitive information on a daily basis, are frequently targeted by hackers. It is therefore the need of the hour to ensure people working in these industries are clued-up on cyber security issues.
Vaizey said the new course will make makes cyber security part of the day job for lawyers and accountants and aims to provide members of both professions with tailored and relevant guidance on how they can better protect themselves and their clients from cyber threats.
Vaizey concluded saying that it is very much essential that government and industry should come forward and work together to protect UK companies from online attacks that can cause millions of pounds of damage.
The course content has been jointly developed by the British government, The Law Society, the Institute for Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Solicitor’s Regulatory Authority.
The course, funded through the government’s £860 million National Cyber Security Programme, will cover a wide range of issues, including how to protect digital information and prevent cyber attacks from occurring.
