Twitter has rolled out a child friendly version of its short video clip sharing service dubbed Vine.
The newly launched Vine version is targeted specifically at young children, in a bid to prevent them watching unsuitable content.
“We’ve seen for ourselves – and heard from parents, siblings and others – that kids love Vine. So, we built Vine Kids, a simple new app that gives young children a fun way to watch Vines,” reads a post by Carolyn Penner, the company’s head of communications, on the Vine blog.
“The idea came about during an office conversation in early January. One of my colleagues was talking about how much his two-year-old daughter loves Vine – he said he wished there was a separate app she could use to more easily watch posts that are appropriate for kids. That week happened to be Hack Week, a time when we get to work on projects outside of our day-to-day work. So two folks teamed up and built exactly that.”
Users can swipe left or right through the videos, and tap the screen to produce “quirky sounds.” A group of animated characters has been added in to host the app and offer a bit more excitement for kids.
Initially compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, the new Vine app offers a feed of “hand-selected” six-second looping videos from Vine’s community. The app supports iOS 7 or later version.
Vine Kids is currently available for download from the Apple App Store.
