After having defeated elite bosses in the previous edition, Twitch Plays Pokémon has started off with Pokémon Crystal – the second-generation updated version of Pokémon Gold and Silver.
The previous edition ended after 1,165,140 players collaborated for duration of 16 days, 7 hours, 45 minutes and 30 seconds to beat the elites in the game. The game did have a fair share of hiccups including delays in processing commands, site-wide chat issues and presence of players who tried to sabotage the game.
Twitch released the game’s official stats and they are staggering. There were a total of 9 million onlookers; over 36 million views; over 122 million commands; and over 1 billion minutes watched.
The new adventure Pokémon Crystal began on Sunday morning and after 26 hours of gameplay players have already managed to earn the first of eight gym badges while also having engaged in a controversy over whether to not to evolve their stating Pokémon Totodile.
While speaking with the Guardian), TPP creator said that they “very happy that the stream managed to reach a conclusion”.
“I wasn’t sure if that was going to be possible when I started… [but] once they got to the Elite Four I knew it was only going to be a matter of hours. I was sleeping at the time of the battle but woke up during the credits.”
