Some of the top grossing movies of 2013 also made it to the top pirated charts of 2013 including the likes of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Iron Man 3 and Django Unchained.
According to a report on TorrentFreak, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which managed to rake in over $1 billion in revenue also managed to earn the top spot in most pirate movie charts with a whopping 8.4 million downloads. Django Unchained took the second spot with 8.1 million downloads while Fast and Furious 6 received 7.9 million downloads.
Iron Man 3, the top grosser of 2013, came in fourth with 7.6 million downloads, while Silver Linings Playbook with 7.5 million downloads finished the top 5 lineup.
There are those who have claimed that piracy has its upsides; however, a majority of the industry believes that they affect revenues and some are of the opinion that rampant piracy may even “lead to the death of films.”
One of the biggest surprises of the top 10 last year was Gangster Squad, which managed to rake in just $100 million but still managed to gain seventh position with 7.2 million downloads.
the old way of doing things does not belong in this day and age.. they are sticking to an old method like it is still the 80’s yet cry when the results are not the same as they once were.. if movies “die” it will not be because of internet piracy but stubborn and uncreative people who are so out of touch with the real world.. also theres currently not a way to replace the cinema hence the fact that they are still making big money from there..
