Hitting the fastest single download speed at 19.53Mbps in 4G, Three has managed to sweep the Broadband Genie’s Road Trip 2014 board, bagging the title “UK’s best mobile network of 2014.”
According to the Broadband Genie’s latest annual report, Three, with “outstanding results,” has outperformed the other networks including EE, Vodafone and O2 in the tests during the train travel between London and Edinburgh.
Broadband Genie’s assessment of Three’s offering noted that both the Three’s 3G as well as 4G dongles have successfully completed “more tests than any other network” and has come out topping the results with “excellent average and peak scores.”
In 3G speed test, Three offered the top speeds of 15.41Mbps with a 4.48Mbps average download speed and upload speed of 1.4Mbps, followed by EE with “slightly lower signal strength,” at averages of 2.62Mbps download and 0.91Mbps upload speeds.
O2 made it to the top 3 with average speeds of 2.03Mbps download and 1.24Mbps upload, while Vodafone, which offered the slowest speeds, ranked the worst of the main networks with average speeds of 1.21Mbps download and 0.66Mbps upload.
In 4G speed tests, Three offered impressive average speeds of 6.19Mbps download and 1.54Mbps upload, while the other offered EE – 3.99Mbps/0.62Mbps, O2 – 4.13Mbps/0.89Mbps and Vodafone – 3.2Mbps/1.49Mbps
Coverage-wise, Three topped again with a 90 percent completion rate in both 3G as well as 4G, while EE successfully managed to pull up 73 percent in 4G and 67 percent in 3G. O2 stood at a mere 23 percent in both 3G and 4G, while Vodafone was the least again with just 23 percent in 4G and 17 percent in 3G.
With the results of speed tests and coverage for 3G and 4G, Three is entitled the UK’s best mobile network in 2014. The report notes that Vodafone, which reportedly completed the fewest tests, offered better results for 4G compared to 3G.
