Mobile operator Three has confirmed its plans of 4G rollout in the UK starting next week and further plans of bringing a total of 50 cities under its 4G network by end of 2014.
London, Manchester, Birmingham and Reading will be the first ones to get Three’s 4G coverage starting December 13 and users with 4G smartphones and tablets will be able to browse the internet at theoretical speeds of 150Mbps. Customers with 4G handsets will however be required to install a software update before they will be able to surf the web at 4G speeds.
Three is planning to add 42 cities and towns in 2014 and aims to cover 98 percent of UK population by the end of 2015. Three isn’t charging its users anything extra for the 4G services unlike its competitors.
Dave Dyson, Three’s CEO, said: “We are building a brand and network that encourages and enables customers to enjoy the mobile internet. Customers are using more data than ever on Three, far more than on any other network. As we add 4G capacity to the network, this experience will only get better.”
Three’s announcement coincides with that of Everything Everywhere’s wherein the carrier announced extension of its 4G services to 10 more towns and cities.
