Three has announced a new app dubbed Three inTouch to be launched soon, that will allow customers to make calls and share texts over Wi-Fi.
Several remote areas are yet to receive strong mobile signals and Three’s app could make it easy for users to make voice calls and send texts via Wi-Fi.
The app is expected to be available for download sometime in August this year. Customers can use it as part of their contract and the Pay As You Go customers will be able to utilize it as part of their monthly allowances.
Three said in a press release, “With Three inTouch customers can make and receive calls and text messages when they connect to Wi-Fi. It’s a free app which uses their existing monthly allowance or prepaid credit for any minutes or texts used. The service is seamless and uses the customers’ usual Three phone number.”
Recently, EE also invested £275 million to offer a similar service to its customers. However, EE doesn’t require its customers to download an app, instead the company has integrated it to the phone’s native dialler, which makes it unnecessary to have a separate application to make calls and send texts.
Earlier this month, Three scrapped off roaming charges for five additional countries and the company also announced its plans to scrap 0800 charges on its network. Currently, Three offers services in almost 36 towns and cities and is planning to cover 98 percent of the country with 4G services by the end of 2015.
