Three, one of the UK’s leading mobile operators, on Thursday announced that it has inked a deal with Virgin Media to give its users access to London Underground Wi-Fi service for free by the end of this month.
Three is the latest in the list of mobile operators, including EE, Vodafone and O2, to allow free Wi-Fi on the Tube network.
As part of the deal, Three customers will now be able to access Virgin Media’s Wi-Fi service, installed during the London 2012 Olympics, currently available at 137 London Underground stations covering even the ticket halls, corridors and platforms.
Danny Dixon, director of customer strategy at Three said the latest move would ensure that users remain Wi-Fi connected even while travelling across the capital. With access to free Wi-Fi on the London underground Three users will be able to enjoy the benefits of being connected no matter where they are, Dixon added.
Virgin Media has also revealed that it is soon going to add 7 more stations including Shepherd’s Bush and West Brompton to its underground network. Bow Road, Ealing Broadway and Edgware Road on the Bakerloo line, Hammersmith on the Hammersmith & City line, and Harrow-on-the-Hill are the 5 other underground stations to get the free service soon. The firm said that it is planning to make them available in a week’s time.
