Facebook’s Menlo Park campus was locked down by authorities after reports of an unspecified threat.
Dave Bertini, Menlo Park police Commander, told San Jose Mercury News that Facebook’s campus was locked down Tuesday night after an unknown threat was called into the San Francisco Police Department shortly after 7 pm which was then passed to Menlo Park police.
Bertini told reporters that “it was a totally not credible, unsubstantiated threat”.
“I’m not even sure that it was specifically to the Menlo Park campus of Facebook,” he added.
Facebook employees were asked to stay put while officers searched the campus. However, later on after an intensive investigation, Bertini said the threat was found to be unsubstantiated and not credible and declared the area completely safe. Employees were allowed to leave the campus about 8:30 p.m. local time (11:30 p.m. ET).
The scare came just days after it was revealed that that Mark Zuckerberg’s social network is ready to pay for a full-time police officer to be based at its offices. The company will be paying $200,000 for three years to keep the officer at the site.
