When we think of a grand touring sedan our immediate thought is of a large, gas-guzzling hunk of metal. To be fair, in the past this has been the case with vehicles in this class. Mazda are however breaking the mold with the Mazda3 S.
On the inside it is a true five-seat car, with a feeling of space and room in the trunk for the luggage. On the outside though, it lacks the bulk of grand touring sedans of old. The use of front wheel drive leaves more space inside the vehicle for the occupants and consequently you feel as though you are in a bigger car.
One thing that does remind you of the exterior dimensions of the car is the turning circle. The 103.9-inch wheelbase enables a turning circle of 34.2 feet, which enables the car to get in and out of the tightest of spaces.
The performance is also expectantly good from the 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, coupled to either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox producing 167 horsepower. It also uses regular gasoline rather than the more expensive premium octane options.
The car also comes with a host of standard safety features as well as the optional, ‘Blind-side monitoring and lane departure warning system’, offered by Mazda.
The best thing however about the Mazda3 S Grand Touring sedan is that it will give you in excess of forty miles for every gallon of that low octane fuel.
