Microsoft Surface Pro 3, which debuted with Intel Core i7 chip as its diadem, isn’t living up to the expectations of early adopters as several users are reporting overheating issues with, especially after installing a few updates rolled out by the company.
Users find that the top right part of the device gets overheated quickly which in turn depletes the battery rapidly and this happens even when users run only light tasks. A software bug that has remained undiscovered until now is likely the cause of the issue.
Some users who turned off the Windows Installer Module and Windows Installer Module Worker noted that the heating reduced significantly and the device ran quieter than before. Checking the process manager for these tasks seems to help, according to some users. Experts say that the chip should have been given more room and shouldn’t have been sandwiched in such a thin chassis.
Microsoft responded to user complaints yesterday, saying that its team is working on a patch and it will be rolled out shortly. However, the company has not promised a particular date for the patch and it is speculated that the patch might come on September 9, the next patch Tuesday.
Microsoft said in an emailed statement to ZDNet that its team has realized that some of the Surface Pro 3 devices with the i7 chip restart abruptly and show the Thermometer Gauge icon during the boot up and that their investigation has revealed that the event is triggered sooner than it is programmed to be.
