Valve has got everyone excited with its Steam Machine plans giving gamers the option of opting for a gaming console other than one from Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo; however, there has been one thing missing from Steam Machine plans – portable / handheld console powered by SteamOS. This is about to change as atleast one company is working on a handheld gaming device running SteamOS.
SteamBoy Machine announced at the last day of E3 its plans of manufacturing and releasing a handheld console using which gamers will be able to enjoy their Steam titles on the go.
“SteamBoy is the first device that allows to play Steam games on the go,” read SteamBoy Machine’s press release. “You will keep playing your favorite games at the bus, the office, the school or the doctor’s waiting room.”
SteamBoy is effectively a 5-inch display smashed inbetween Valve’s signature touchpad controllers. The team behind the portable Steam Machine has revealed to The Escapist that SteamBoy will feature a quad-core CPU, 4GB RAM, and 32GB internal storage.
The quad-core CPU could ideally be an Intel Atom variant or an AMD A4. The team has also revealed that the console won’t be as powerful as its living room sibling, but it should be able to play all current titles available on Steam.
There is no prototype yet for anyone to test, and SteamBoy only exists as a teaser video [embedded above]. Let us know in the comments section of what you think about this SteamOS powered handheld gaming console.
