Sony’s 13.3-inch E-Ink Digital Paper – a professional version of its e-reader product – is set for a May US release.
Digital paper blends features of both an e-reader and a tablet. The slab will come with a 13.3-inch screen, which offers a 1,200 x 1,600 16-level grayscale display and a digital stylus similar to tablet PCs enabling users to annotate and mark up documents.
The device will let users make notes and highlight stuff using the stylus as well as download and upload documents to the internet, and store more than 2,800 documents.
Digital Paper, which is approximately 7-mm thick, can display an entire letter-sized document in full-screen with no need for zooming or scrolling.
Sony, in addition to 4GB of internal storage space, has also included a microSD card slot on the device to increase document storage. The Digital Paper supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n connectivity and comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that lasts up to last 3 weeks on a single charge.
Sony claims Digital Paper is apparently perfectly readable in bright sunlight same like actual paper.
The Digital Paper only works with PDF files and will require users to convert Word, Excel or PowerPoint files to PDF format in order to access them.
Bob Nell, director of Digital Paper Solutions at Sony Electronics, commented: “This is a true replacement for the vast amounts of paper that continue to clutter many offices and institutions. It is very easy to use and optimised for reading and annotating contracts, white papers, scholarly articles and legislation.”

Coming to the price, the device will cost around $1,100 (£660) in the States. Sony is yet to announce the device’s UK availability.
