Sony has sold a whopping 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units as of December 28, 2013 – outselling Microsoft Xbox One by over 1.2 million units.
Andrew House, SCEA CEO, took the stage during Kaz Hirai’s CES 2014 keynote to announce the PlayStation 4 sales numbers. If we compare the numbers with those announced on December 1 – 2.1 million – they are exactly double.
The official Sony Electronics USA Twitter account tweeted “Andrew House on stage: “@Playstation 4 sold over 2.1 million units in just 2 weeks. Today we announce we’ve surpassed 4. million.” #CES2014”
Sony started selling the PlayStation 4 just a week ahead of Xbox One – PS4 debuted on November 15th last year, while Xbox One started selling on November 22nd.
New services like PlayStation Now will only build up the momentum for the PlayStation 4 maker. The new service will eliminate the compatibility issues allowing users to stream titles directly from the cloud onto their PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, smartphone and tablet. The service will be launched in a limited beta starting this month, while full availability is slated for summer 2014.
PlayStation Now was announced at CES 2014 and through a tweet by Sony Electronics USA. “Just announced at #CES2014: The new PlayStation streaming game service. Gamers will get instant access to games from previews generations.”
