Sony has reset passwords of an undisclosed number of its PlayStation Network users based out of the EU as a ‘precautionary measure’ after it observed ‘irregular activity’.
A PSN support coordinator has revealed through a reply on PSN EU community forums that passwords for a ‘small number of users’ were reset, but “there was no specific evidence that any accounts had be compromised.”
“Only a small number of users were affected by this and as I said this was precautionary so there is nothing specific to worry about”, the coordinator added.
Sony hasn’t provided any other detail about the ‘irregular activity’ incident claiming that disclosure of such information would affect their ability to keep its users safe.
Users started reporting issues that they were not able to sign-in on the PSN last night and it turned out that Sony had forced a password reset for all those users.
The forced password reset from Sony doesn’t seem to be a huge issue in comparison to what happened during the infamous PSN hack, but this is something worth noting in case you have been facing issues while signing in. If you are still having trouble, all you need to do is reset your password.
“If anyone has any concerns about there PSN account drop me a PM or give PlayStation Support a call. You should also contact Support if you are unable to reset your password for any reason”, the reply read at the end.
I think it is a lie that no accounts have been compromised.
My account was accessed and money spent by a user other than myself last Saturday. Sony investigated and agree my account was accessed by someone other than myself. yet refuse to refund any money. blaming me for not keeping my account secure enough. If I take it up with my bank account Sony will ban my account from the PlayStation network they have told me this themselves. I will lose 15 months PS+ subscription and any purchases I have made in the past.
I find it highly suspicious that they would issue a mandatory password reset on this so soon after my incident occurred.
