Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House has revealed that the PlayStation 4 will be in ‘good supply’ throughout the holiday season in the countries where it has been launched. The news follows Sony’s claims of 1 million units sold in less than 24 hours.
Speaking with Game Informer, House revealed that their main concern following a bumper PlayStation 4 launch was to ensure that the console remains available in all markets during the holiday shopping season. House said that they are in no way “engendering frustration by having a shortage of supply. I think through the holiday season that we’ll be in good supply.”
House revealed that they will be standing by their initial estimates that Sony will manage to sell at least 5 million units PlayStation 4 consoles by the end of this financial year. “The sales target that I announced for the company is five million units sold by the end of our fiscal year. March 31, 2014” said House.
Sony has opted for a single product SKU this time around unlike its previous product launches and despite this, House claims that they have a “good production ramp up and a good sense of supply.”
Talking about reasons behind a delayed launch in Japan, House said that each market is different from the other specifically based on gaming experience. House revealed that Sony wanted to be sure that PlayStation 4 roll out happens with an appropriate software lineup.
“We paid careful attention to when we had enough confidence that we would have developed from the ground up experiences that the Japanese consumer would really respond to,” House said.
“That was the primary decision in pushing back the launch in Japan to a slightly later time period.”
