Sony has taken the wraps off its Xperia Z1 Compact smartphone during a press conference at CES 2014.
Powered by 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC, the Xperia Z1 Compact packs 2GB RAM; a 4.3-inch Triluminous HD display with 720p resolution at 341PPI; microSD card slot; runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean; 2,300mAh battery; 4G LTE connectivity; and is resistant to dust, scratches and water.
The Xperia Z1 Compact packs a 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS camera on the rear, which comes coupled with Sony’s custom photography software as well as Augmented Reality features.
Announcing the smartphone Sony Mobile President Kunimasa Suzuki said, “We’ve taken the power of the Xperia Z1 and we have made it smaller without compromising on features. The Xperia Z1 Compact houses all of the power of the flagship Z1.”
The Z1 Compact will be available in Black, Red, Lime, Pink and White and will be launched globally in February; however, the company has refrained from announcing its pricing details. The smartphone is running Android 4.3, but Sony has revealed that it will be releasing a KitKat update sometime in March.
During the event, Sony also showed off its Sony Core, a USB-stick sized tracking device as well as Sony Smartband which houses it. The Smartband will pair with Sony’s Lifelog app. These are expected to be released sometime in spring this year.
