BBM for Android and iPhone was released a couple of days back and according to BlackBerry the cross-platform messenger clocked in over 10 million downloads in just 24 hours.
The achievements haven’t stopped there as BlackBerry said in this press release that BBM has managed to garnered over 87,000 reviews in Google Play and out of there more than 60,000 are rated five-star (at the time of the press release). Quiet impressive! Right? Well all is not gold here as when we went about checking the review, we found something was going on.
Over 60 percent of all the reviews in our sample study contained more or less the same text which reads “Thank you so much blackberry team. I was waiting this app. Its really great user friendly and smooth.” Here are few screenshots. Notice the ones with red squares around them? We could assume that users are being lazy and just copying and pasting what others have written. But that couldn’t be the case with 60 percent of the users.
Looking at the overall BBM for Android review stats on Google Play, there are 128,585 reviews out of which over 86,000 are five-star reviews, over 14,000 are four-star ones and over 16,000 are just one-star rated.
On analysis of the four-star and three-star rated reviews we found that the same text was present in quite a few of them. If this turns out to be a paid review scandal, it would be a disaster for BlackBerry considering that the messenger had already been delayed by a month.
