SnapchatDB.info, the site where data of 4.6 million Snapchat users was uploaded for anyone to grab, has been suspended by the hosting service provider.
The hosting service provider JDR Hosting hasn’t provided any specific reason behind the taken down, but it won’t be too farfetched to assume that the takedown may have been requested by Snapchat owing to the sensitivity of the data being distributed on SnapchatDB.info.
Soon after SnapchatDB.info was taken offline Stefan Vetter, a Digital Marketing Strategist, published an interview, which he claims is with the hackers responsible for the Snapchat hack. In the interview the hackers have reiterated that their “motivation behind this release was to raise the public awareness on the issue, and also put public pressure on Snapchat to get this exploit fixed.”
Hackers have claimed that the vulnerability in Snapchat remains and it was “really easier” to get hold of the user data.
When asked if they would like to give an advice to tech companies, the hackers said,
“Our advice to tech companies would be to pay more attention to privacy and security, especially if they have a large userbase and if they are holding sensitive information.”
