Sky has amended its Sky Go policy for games consoles and has informed its customers that starting July 29, the on-demand video platform will no longer be available for free.
The service, which was launched back in 2006, provides customers with the option of watching live TV on laptops, mobile devices as well as games consoles. The latest amendment doesn’t change the service status as far other platforms apart from games consoles are concerned.
Users can continue streaming content on consoles, but they will have to subscribe Sky Go Extra for £5 a month. The subscription will also give customers the option to register up to four devices instead of the previously available option of 2 devices. Further they will also be able to download shows for offline viewing.
“We wanted to let you know that from 29 July you’ll no longer be able to access Sky Go using your Sky Go compatible games console. But don’t worry, you’ll still be able to access Sky Go on your games console after this date if you sign up for Sky Go Extra”, read the letter.
Unhappy users have been quick to flood Sky forums to show their frustration with some even thinking of cancelling their Sky subscriptions.
“It’s almost black mail!” said one user. “Ridiculous. I’m considering cancelling my Sky subscription completely” said another.
“Got the same letter today. What an absolute joke. Sky is expensive enough without this extra cost. Think im just gonna bite the bullet and cancel my whole sky package, broadband and line rental”, said another.
