British TV broadcaster Sky has just updated its Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) to include new ‘recommendation engine’ that recommends movies and television shows to viewers based on their recent recordings and downloads.
Sky claims that the new ‘recommendation engine’ will offer personalized suggestions to viewers based on their past viewing habits, recordings and on-demand downloads. For instance, if a user has been watching a lot of crime drama shows, the Sky Box will recommend other crime drama shows like Hannibal, Criminal Minds and Luther.
Another notable feature in the update is the Smart Series Link feature that automatically records current and new series of shows already in the Sky user’s series recording list.
The update also adds a new Sports tile to the Homepage which will offer sports fans with quick access to all the live sporting events currently showing up on different channels.
The new HDMI One Touch option will now allow users to program the ‘Sky’ button to turn on the Sky+HD box and TV with a single key press.
Other improvements include HD and SD viewing quality options as well as support for DVD cover art Sky Movies On Demand and Sky Store.
Luke Bradley-Jones, Sky’s Director of TV Products, said that the company well-knows customers love the new homepage as it puts catch-up, box sets and movies at the heart of their TV viewing. This is the reason that Sky is introducing even more features to help users discover more TV they really want to watch, Luke added.
Sky has started rolling out the new update with effect from Thursday and would be available to all Sky+ HD customers with compatible boxes by coming winter.
