It has been nearly two weeks now since WhatsApp for Windows Phone disappeared from Windows Phone Store without a trace and the company is yet to detail the reasons behind pulling the app or provide details on when can users expect it to be republished again.
Sometime in the third week of this month, WhatsApp pulled the Windows Phone version of its app citing technical issues.
The official statement at the time was this: “Unfortunately due to technical issues, we have chosen to un-publish WhatsApp Messenger on the Windows Phone platform. We are working closely with Microsoft to resolve the issues and hope to return to the store shortly. We apologize to our users for the temporary inconvenience.”
Since then there has been no word on what exactly are the technical issues and the progress being made towards republishing of the app.
Users who already have a working copy of WhatsApp installed on their Windows Phone handsets are able to use the messaging service, but new users are waiting eagerly for the app. WhatsApp’s listing on Windows Phone Store still reads “This app is no longer published”.
It seems that incompatibility with Windows Phone 8.1 is the primary reason why the app has been pulled from Windows Phone Store in the first place because Windows Phone 8 users hardly complained about any technical issues.
Chances are that the company never got around testing WhatsApp on Windows Phone 8.1 and by the time they could iron out the bugs, the developer preview of the new platform found its way on devices of thousands of users thereby triggering a lot of bug reports and other technical issues.
