Governments and corporations facing cyber attacks are struggling hard to search for the right cyber warriors that too in enough numbers to fight back against increasing cyber attacks.
According to reports, Government agencies and corporations are offering highest salaries possible and best locations to recruit the best cyber security staff who will save them from cyber-attacks and stem annual global losses between $80 billion [£50 billion] and $400 billion [£250 billion].
Last year around 400,000 advanced cyber threats to the UK government’s secure intranet were blocked, which led the government to announce a new Joint Cyber Reserve. The U.S. military’s Cyber Command will be recruiting 4,000 new personnel by 2015, while Britain last month announced the formation of a new Joint Cyber Reserve. Brazil and Indonesia have also set up similar cyber forces.
But demand for cyber specialists is outstripping supply resulting in a staffing crunch as competitors are offering giant salaries to poach the best talent in the industry. Another issue with government organizations is that they are not able to match the salaries offered by corporates and private companies. Former White House director for cyber security, Chris Finan, claims that there is not enough human capital in this sector.
“They will choose where they work based on salary, lifestyle and the lack of an interfering bureaucracy and that makes it particularly hard to get them into government” notes Reuters.
According to the US Bureau of Labour Statistics Reports, the number of IT security roles in the US will increase by 22 percent in the coming ten years with salaries set to increase between five and seven percent every year across the globe.
