Silent Circle has partnered with Geeksphone to create a privacy oriented smartphone dubbed Blackphone that it claims is the first handset to place privacy and control in user’s control and that too ahead of anything else – even ahead of advertising.
“Black Phone is the world’s first smartphone Which prioritizes the user’s privacy and control, without any hooks to carriers or vendors”, reads the vision statement on Blackphone’s website.
“It’s the trustworthy precaution any connected worker shoulder stand take, Whether you’re talking to your family or Exchanging notes on your latest merger & acquisition”, it adds.
Blackphone runs a secure version of Android dubbed PrivatOS that promises secure phone calls, secure text messages as well as secure file transfers and storage without compromising their privacy.
Phil Zimmerman, the creator of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) and co-founder and President of Silent Circle, claims “Blackphone provides users with everything they need to ensure privacy and control of their communications, along with all the other high-end smartphone features they have come to expect.”
Zimmerman says that primary aim of Blackphone is to uphold user’s privacy and doesn’t serve as a business model for other vendors who want to monetise data, but will protect users’ privacy.
