Syrian Electronic Army kept to its words of ‘Game On..’, which the hacking collective promised during its Xbox Support Twitter account hack and hijacked Microsoft’s official blog, Microsoft’s News Twitter feed and possibly employee’s email accounts.
The Microsoft News Twitter feed was hijacked last evening at around 19:30 [GMT] as it evident from screenshots take at the time. One of the tweets fired by the SEA from the @MSFTnews account read “Don’t use Microsoft emails(hotmail, outlook),They are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the governments. #SEA”. Another tweet read “Syrian Electronic Army Was Here via @Official_SEA16 #SEA”. [Screenshots below]
The MSFTnews feed hack was followed by hijacks of Microsoft’s blog and Microsoft News Center. The blog had SEA’s famous messages in at least three of the blog posts. “SEA Syrian Electronic Army Was Here… long live Syria!”, and “SEA Was Here… Long Live Syria!”. [Screenshot below]
This was followed by the blog redirecting to SEA’s website and before Microsoft could fix the issue, it was noticed my multiple visitors. Microsoft News Centre which is designed to show updates from Microsoft blog showed up the blogs posted by SEA as well.
If this was not all, a screenshot of an email from Creative Director of Storytelling at Microsoft Steve Clayton was also posted online by SEA indicating that the hackers may have managed to hack into email accounts of few employees as well.
