Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) hijacked social media accounts and blogs of CNN just days after the notorious hackers hacked their way through Microsoft blogs.
SEA hijacked the accounts on Thursday night and posted a series of messages, which were quickly removed by CNN, but not before vigilant Twitter users managed to grab screenshots of CNN’s timeline.
One of the tweets on CNN’s main Twitter account read: “Syrian Electronic Army was here…Stop lying… All your reports are fake!”
SEA managed to gain access to the news company’s Hootsuite account – an online tool that is used to manage multiple social accounts. Through this account, SEA took full control of CNN’s main social networking accounts among many others.
The cable news network confirmed that multiple accounts were hacked including “CNN’s main Facebook account, CNN Politics’ Facebook account and the Twitter pages for CNN and CNN’s Security Clearance. Blogs for Political Ticker, The Lead, Security Clearance, The Situation Room and Crossfire were also hacked.”
SEA explained its motivation of the hack claiming that “Instead of any actual journalism, #CNN turned into a loud horn calling for the destruciton of the #Syria-n state.”
