Samsung Electronics has upped its production target for the recently announced flagship Galaxy smartphones – the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge – in wake of positive market response, reported the Electronic Times on Wednesday.
According to the report, citing an unnamed source with knowledge of the matter, the South Korean tech giant has raised its total production target for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones from 7 million to 8 million units for April following a good market inception. The company has however kept its March production target unchanged at 5 million units.
A Samsung spokeswoman said the company does not comment on speculation or rumors.
The newly announced Galaxy S6 and its curved-edges variant are the result of Samsung’s efforts to reverse dripping smartphone revenues that led to its first annual earnings fall in three years in 2014.
The revamped stylish design and technological improvements brought into the new phones has garnered well-response, prompting some brokerages to hike shipments forecasts for the new Samsung smartphones this year. The handsets will be available in 20 global markets starting April 10.
To recap, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge feature 5.1-inch Quad HD (1,440 × 2,560 pixels) Super AMOLED displays with a pixel density of 577 ppi. The only difference between the two handsets is that the latter sports a dual-edge display.
The two smartphones are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7 Octa-core processor which contains two quad-core processors clocked at 2.1 GHz and 1.5GHz respectively. The devices run on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop and feature 3GB RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera along with a 5-megapixel front facing camera.
Some of the camera features include Tracking AF, Aperture F1.9, Auto Real-time HDR (Front & Rear), Low Light Video (Front & Rear), IR Detect White Balance, High Clear Zoom, Virtual Shot, Fast Motion, Slow Motion, Pro Mode and Selective Focus.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 is 6.8 mm thin, weighs 138g and has a 2,550mAh battery, while the Samsung Galaxy Edge is 7.0mm, weighs 132g and has a 2,600mAh battery.
In terms of connectivity, both the handsets support LTE Cat.6 (300/50Mbps), WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), HT80 MIMO(2×2) 620Mbps, Bluetooth v4.1, USB 2.0, NFC and an IR Remote.
