Samsung has finally unveiled its next Galaxy flagship dubbed the Galaxy S6 alongside the new Galaxy S6 Edge at the MWC 2015 in Barcelona.
As claimed by Samsung, both the new handsets are “beautifully crafted from metal and glass” and feature 5.1-inch Quad HD (1440×2560 pixels) Super AMOLED displays with a pixel density of 577ppi. The only difference between the two handsets is that the latter sports a dual-edge display.
The two smartphones are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7 Octa-core processor which contains two quad-core processors clocked at 2.1 GHz and 1.5GHz respectively. The devices run on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop and feature 3GB RAM, a 16MP rear camera along with a 5MP front facing camera. Some of the camera features include Tracking AF, Aperture F1.9, Auto Real-time HDR (Front & Rear), Low Light Video (Front & Rear), IR Detect White Balance, High Clear Zoom, Virtual Shot, Fast Motion, Slow Motion, Pro Mode and Selective Focus.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 is 6.8 mm thin, weighs 138g and has a 2,550mAh battery, while the Samsung Galaxy Edge is 7.0mm, weighs 132g and has a 2,600mAh battery.
In terms of connectivity, both the handsets support LTE Cat.6 (300/50Mbps), WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), HT80 MIMO(2×2) 620Mbps, Bluetooth v4.1, USB 2.0, NFC and an IR Remote.
“With the all new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung is offering what’s next in mobility, along with a new standard to drive the global mobile agenda,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge will be available in 20 global markets starting April 10. The handsets will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage variants in Gold Platinum, White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only) color options. There’s no word on the handsets’ pricing yet.
