Samsung, through its official Exynos Twitter account, posted a teaser image with the tag “Exynos Infinity, in Barcelona,” hinting at a new Exynos chipset to be launched at the MWC 2014. The company, however, hasn’t confirmed anything about this new chipset.
Samsung Exynos tweet reads “Continuing our market-leading innovation and leadership, we bring you our latest innovations. Please stay tuned.” [One surprising thing is that the tweet has been removed and the above photo is nowhere to be seen on Twitter.]
Back in October last year the Korean company confirmed the production of 64-Bit Exynos Chip in a press conference, following the announcement of Apple’s A7 Chip. The company also revealed its plans to launch Samsung-branded 64-bit processors based on ARM core designs.
There has been no confirmation from Samsung whether the Exynos Infinity is the 64-bit CPU yet, but the probability is relatively high. Fueling this rumor, a 64-bit Samsung quad-core SoC, sporting the 64-bit architecture, was spotted in a Linux kernel patch. The 64-bit quad-core mobile processor under the codename “Samsung GH7,” appears to be implementing ARMv8 ISA.
Samsung’s tweet about Exynos Infinity, however, has kick-started the debate on whether the flagship device, Galaxy S5 will be powered by a 64-bit processor, which is expected to be launched at the UnPacked 5 event.
Previous reports also point at the launch of Galaxy Gear 2, which might feature Tizen OS instead of Android, alongside a new tablet series believed to be Galaxy Tab 4 at the MWC 2014.
We are not sure now whether Samsung’s new mobile processor “Exynos Infinity,” will arrive at MWC 2014 or whether it was just a PR goof-up.
