United Kingdom is well on its way from digital to a smart society, with two-thirds of the public embracing the shift to smart devices, claims Samsung.
In an event at The Shard in London, Samsung teaming up with Big Innovation Center, published its research paper “Towards a Smarter Society,” explaining how UK has developed starting from the analogue times to digital and now its heading to the smart society.
“At Samsung we’re not only in the business of inventing cutting-edge products, but also in the business of making people’s lives easier through technology,” Andy Griffiths, president of Samsung UK & Ireland, said.
According to the research, the 2,000 people surveyed in UK think “smart” to be already a part of their day to day life, with over 41 percent using apps like Skype on a daily basis, followed by smart TVs at 29 percent, and remote working systems at 20 percent. Around 1 in 10 Brits believe UK to be ahead of all the other countries in smart technological innovation, while a majority feels to be still playing catch up with the US.
Samsung highlighted that 55 percent of participants said smart traffic systems to be at the top of their wish lists in smart technology, 46 percent need internet enabled doctor’s appointments, while 27 percent wish to have a smart fridge and another 27 percent a 3D printer.
The research also pointed to the rise in smart technology in health sector, with more than half of the people surveyed willing to use wearable technology to track health and fitness. Around 72 percent Brits said that they will adopt technologies that can make homes more efficient and save some money, while 71 percent were interested in smart home security systems.
Griffiths said “I firmly believe the next few years will be a pivotal time for us as a technology industry leader and as a major business in the UK. We want smart to be inclusive not exclusive, we want it to be enterprising and innovative and we want it to be about taking all of UK society forward.”
