On Monday 15th October 2012, the South Korean manufacturer Samsung launched a new range of tablet hybrids and ultrabook computers for the new Windows 8 operating system.
The hybrid computers will combine state of the art touch screen technology in tablet form with mobile devise features, providing on the move technology.
The announcement was made at a press conference in South Korea. Head of American Samsung Tim Baxter stated: “Tablets and smartphones are ushering in a new era of computing mobility. New categories will arise as a result of this.”
Baxter also added: “The Smart PC is a new category driven by innovation and U.I., with Windows 8 as the lynch pin.” highlighting how the new Windows 8 OS has been a motivational force for the new range.
Unveiled at the conference were the previously unseen Series 5 and Series 7 tablets, all in one tablet devices with touch screens which have been dubbed “ATIV Smart PCs”. The company will also be launching a touch-enabled laptop, while the Series 9, Samsung’s non-touch enabled laptops, will be updated to the new Windows 8 operating system.
The announced tablets will feature a 11.6 in screen with ATIV Smart PC touch screen technology. The 500T model will boast an Atom z2760 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 64GB hard drive and should retail at about £405. The 700T will feature a Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
Also in the Samsung range will be the 13-inch Ultra Touch laptop – available with either a Core i3 or Core i5 edition, it has 4GB RAM and 500GB storage. Unveiled as the CES 2012 it should be priced at around £534.
